I used to be able to find canned whole green chilies in the grocery store.
Now I can only find chopped green chilies.

Do you know if they still make canned whole green chilies?

(I live in Edmonton, Alberta)

Creamy chicken enchiladas: 1 pound boneless chicken breasts diced 1 8oz package cream cheese cut into cubes Flour or corn tortillas 1 can diced green chili peppers ground cumin mix in about 1/4 cup canned jalapenos chopped 1 or 2 can green enchilada sauce Shredded cheese Cook the chicken in a skillet and when the chicken is done add the cream cheese, it will melt. As the cream cheese melts add the green chilis, jalapenos, and a couple of good dashes of cumin. Continue to heat on low until the cream cheese has melted. Fill a tortilla with the chicken mix, roll and place in a baking dish, Continue until the chicken mix is gone. Top with the enchilada sauce and sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350 for about 10-15 min or until the sauce is nice and hot and the cheese is golden and bubbly.

If there are any Hispanics in Edmonton, go to a chain market in that neighborhood.

I live in Los Angeles (a lot of Hispanics) and I have no trouble finding whole green chiles. Ortego makes them whole and diced.

Worst case, buy fresh jalepenos.

There are many types of green and red chilies, and they can be bought fresh.

Once you're outside of Europe, many if not most cuisines use chilies of some type, so check any of the ethnic markets.

They can also be found dried, so you should be able to get them by mail order.

They can be hard to find, because most people want to chop them up anyway. Talk to the manager of your store, see if you can get him to start carrying them. Big difference between green chilis and jalepenos!

Try the Indian Groceries and Asian food markets. Indian groceries carry canned and fresh green chillies. Tai, Vietnamese and Chinese grocery stores also carry different kinds of green chillies, both canned and fresh.

I usually buy them at Superstore. They're hard to find and you might have to flag somebody down to help.
