Please do not get caught up in "THEMES" your mother birthday party. I mean she is turning 58, and typically once we turn 40, that "THEME" stuff becomes childish. Now your mother may be different, and like that kind of stuff, I am just saying you just don't see it so much. I would just suggest that all the family meet at a decent restaurant for dinner, this way each person is responsible for their own bill. Keep the "THEMES" for the children, do adult things for adults.

What does your mom like, what are her pleasures? That is what I always look for when planning a party of any kind. I have one daughter who will inevitably want "princess" everything and another who is happy with whatever as long as it is feminine. As far as themes, there are so many out there. My thought would be that you go with what you know your mom would love. Check out a party store and find coordinated plates, napkins, tablecloths, etc. Best wishes and prayers =)

1949 was your mom's birth year? Find out everything that happened that year, especially where she was born, and perhaps you can collage a party together out of those events.

A nice thing to do at a birthday party, always, is to use one wall of the party room as a screen for videos, of your mom growing up, all the highlights of her life that her parents filmed, and put it on a continuous loop. Hve fun.
