It all depends on STD it is. If it is something like thrush, then they probably can with creams.
It if is something more serious like chlymdia which needs strong medication then probably not.
But STD can harm the baby so if you think you have one, you need to see your doctor

A pregnancy book I am reading states that most STD's can be treated...and SHOULD be treated when pregnant to avoid risk to unborn child.

yes. and it's all the more important to treat in this circumstance to reduce risk of transmission to your baby. depends on what std you are talking about, but can lead to complications such as conjunctivitis and nervous system involvement so please see someone if you are ever in this situation. Not to scare you as many STDs are treatable, and risk to baby ranges from 0.5%. As mentioned above, you can go to a GUM clinic if you don't want to see your GP - they don't know you at these clinics and keep any details confidential.

It depends on which STD you have. You need to visit your GP or GUM clinic (Genito-Urinary Medicine) and they will take swabs and blood to identify what you have, and then go from there. If you think you do have something, I would suggest you make an appointment ASAP, today even if you can. Leaving it if you do have one could harm you and the baby.

STD's can be treated during pregnancy, depending on what it is. There are antibiotics out there that are pretty safe during pregnancy. See your doctor right away.
