isnt prosper a cool surname, but what does it mean?

i just read that your surname is sugesstive of what your forefathers did for a living eg smith - sum1 in ur family was a blacksmith and so on
but what do you think prosper would mean? my family is of eastern caribbean heritage

It probably means they prospered, maybe they were pirates - Pirates of the Eastern Caribbean.
