why do people think going to church once a week make them a christian when they don't live it the rest of the time ? i think being called religious is an insult to a true christian

You become a Christian when you receive the Sacrament of Baptism. You become religious when you live your faith. You can be a religious person and be a non-Christian.
Going to Church helps one become religious but it is a 24/7 life to live which makes us religious. It includes a daily relationship with God and how we treat other people. Jesus said, "What you do to others, you do to Me."

Seems those types of words are all turning into insults. But their base meanings aren't insulting at all. Religion is just belief in a Higher Power. But being called Religious is usually synonymous with being Fake.

Very similar to the word Cult. Being a Pagan it's often that Christians and other mainstream religions claim I am in a "Cult". They usually mean it in an insulting way, but I don't take it that way. I have found that people who intentionally try to insult me based on labels or looks have a bigger issue to contend with inside themselves. People who insult others are usually looking for a way to cover up one of their own flaws. So to take offense would be silly. Instead, I feel sorry for the person insulting, as it is obvious they can't handle strangers in the real world and our differences.

To be a Believer (or even "Christian") one must be a follower of the Messiah. There are many religions, but if you are truly following the Savior, that certainly makes you "religious". You have two very separate questions, (or three). Yes one can be religious and not be a Christian. You are absolutely correct that going to "Church" does not make one "Christian", but following the Savior. but I don't feel that being called "religious" is an insult. It means that your "spiritual" ideas are important to you, and if you are a believer they should be.

Yes, true. You can be religious and not be a christian. I'm religious and I'm an Asatruar (Germanic Heathen).

I've met plenty of people who call themselves christian who are not acting in a christ-like manner. Just as Muslims who fly planes into buildings are not behaving like muslims are supposed to behave. Every faith has such people.

They wear the label, but do not accept the boundaries set forth by their own faith. I believe this is merely an effort to identify with a larger group rather than for their own spiritual development. I believe this to be the sign of a very lonely, insecure individual.

Be patient with them and show them "the way" by your own actions. They'll either finally get it or they'll leave and find their true path. If they never get it, so to speak, then they're most likely on the wrong path. They're obviously not following their own heart, just the herd.

You are absolutely right. There are a number of people that think once a week will suffice in making them "safe" and that they are "safe" no matter what they say or do the remainder of the week. This is a strange way of thinking. We are told that the first century Christians went from house to house studying the WORD. We certainly need to be more thoughtful of HIS WORD and not man's. Our thnking has certainly not been what it should be. My family and I attend BIBLE STUDY on Wednesday evenings, Sunday school on Sunday morning, Sunday morning and evening services. We pray and talk about GOD at every available time that we can when we are not separated by work or school. HE should be the most important thing in each and every mind in this world! My advice to others... Read, Study, Obey HIS WORD and act as if today is your last opportunity to be on earth Keep a strong prayer life. It is your communication with your true FATHER in Heaven. HE will be pleased at your attempt in following HIS WORD even when you are accidentally sinning if you ask HIM to forgive these sins at every opportunity that you have. Have a great week.
Thank you,
EDs

I agree many put on a face in church and yet their lives outside the church are just like the Pharisees. Thats why I am out of church right now. I know my fellowship with God and Jesus is not where it should be and I am not going to go to church and pretend all is well. People can be religious all they want but God knows the heart.

There are 2 types of Christians - those who have been brought up Christian or those who merely go to church on a Sunday but have not had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and do not KNOW God. These give Christianity a bad name because they call themselves Christians but do not serve the Lord. Then there are those of us who are born again Christians and who the Lord slowly changes and delivers and begins to turn us into what He wants us to be - an image of Himself.

There are many, many people who have been brought up very very badly in God's name and they do not know God. If they did, they would not do the terrible things they do.

Born again Christians are NOT religious. Christians who do not know the Lord ARE religious. God detests religion because He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.

Christianity is just one of many religions. Muslins can be religious without being Christains. Jews can be religious without being religious.

The answer to your question is one that you are will not be able to understand so to quote some famous song lyrics, "Be happy. Don't worry!"

quoting the Bible all the time to one's own advantage is the very big insult to all Christians. no one can read anyone's heart, what makes you think those religious people don't live their beliefs all the time?
