I have just moved into a new house and have quite a large bedroom. I'm thinking about painting it pale green or black and off-white with maybe some silver stripes randomly on the walls. Can you buy metallic paint, does it exist?? Are there any other colours or ways I could paint my room without making it too dark - there's only one window?

Have a look at the link, it will give you loads of ideas, tips, inspiration and advice.

They have a colour consultant (2nd link) which asks you questions about you room, the theme you want to achieve and what colours are best....

Its worth a try!

Why don't you paint it brown and purple. Sounds rancid, but if you get the right shades it would look divine. (see the paint advert) Paint 2 walls in one colour, and the other two in the second colour. Not opposing walls, that would look silly. You could also put some of your random silver stripes on the brown walls, and hang nice pictures with brown frames on the purple walls. Sounds nice, I'm to buy some paint and decorate my own room.

think of the things you're going to put in your room before you go around to actually painting it, because if you put your things in your room it might look horrible!
and don't paint it black because it'll get closed in, but there is such a thing as metallic paint!

also go down to a store like Dulux or B&Q where they have a lot of colours, you can even take in a piece of paper or something with a colour that you like on it and they'll get you some paint that colour.

metallic paints tend to only be the sort used on cars. Use a light colour, and how about a big mirror opposite the window, will reflect a lot of light into the room and make it feel bigger.

SIlver is a very nice colour! you could try going for silver and lilac as i think painting a room one coolour looks boring! Don't go for black as the room will llooked closed in, but you could try painting just one wall.
Go for lighter colours as they open the room up.

I see my bedroom and I want to paint it black,
No colours any more I want to turn them black............
(Rolling Stones (sort of!)

seriously though
You can buy metallic paints I find them a bit difficult to work with would recommend spraying not painting.

Colour wise the bedroom is a place for resting and sleeping, what do you find restful. I went for white with blue curtains and a blue frieze as I find this combination the most restful.

We'll if you don't want it to dark don't use black and I would do my room like a pale green and a light blue with silver stripes and maybe get some picture frames to decorate it with. And maybe a bean bag chair or a make-up mirror.

A pretty buttercream yellow (light) will keep your room from looking dark. Pale green with a little silver metallic paint sponged or ragged on would also keep it light and airy.

Grey is the colour that shows dirt less than any other colour, and if you add some silver paint (yes of course you can buy metallic paints) it might make a nice matching scheme for you.

We painted my Sister's room using a lilac paint on the walls, and a deeper shade of purple on the trim work. It turned out really nice.
