Does his fever stay below 103 and does it come down with the administration of a fever reducer? (ibuprofen or acetametophin, NOT Aspirin, since Aspirin causes Rye's syndrome in kids)
If so, then it's a viral cold and you can home-care. If his fever goes above 103 and doesn't come down with a fever reducer, then you need to see a doctor. Also watch the color of his chest and nasal congestion. If it's clear or a light yellow, you're heading for recovery, but if it's rust colored or a dark green (almost brown) then you need to have him seen by a doctor.
As far as the size of his fever blister, the size is just indicative of the amount of immune system compromise due to fighting a seemingly severe cold. It's normal and you must be aware that the blister is contagious (even more than the cold), so take caution not to break the blister skin and keep a bit of vaseline on it to prevent chaffing or "dry cracking" of the blister resulting in a spread of the virus. If you touch the blister to apply vaseline or any specialized ointment for the blister, be sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water. This is important because the virus in the blister is a form of the herpes virus which lives dormant in the spine. Touching it and then touching the genitals can spread the virus to that area, so be cautious about cross contamination, which is not very common, but certainly can happen.
Good luck to all of you. Push those fluids and allow those productive coughs to help remove the congestion from your lungs. (never take a cough suppressant during the day, and if taking at night only if needed due to loss of sleep).

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about three yrs ago, when I was still attending college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize a lot of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/1TUVG everything changed.
Not only was I able to eradicate all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others by sharing this story.
