I have a Lexmark x2450 which I bought about 6 months ago. I have only just started to use it, the printer works fine and the scanner works as a photo copier. I cant get the pc to recognise the scanner though and whenever I try to put pics on my pc I get a message saying there is no scanner. We have tried deleting everything and downloading it again as well as checking all the connections as the troubleshooter suggests but still nothing. I no longer have the receipt so cant return it. Any ideas please?

Obviously the best people who can helop in this case are the Lexmark support guys.
But you can try these things:
1. Every product has a product ID which by entering into the computer your Lexmark dealer will know if it is in the warranty period or not. e.g. here we don't need receipt for HP, motorola phones etc. for claiming warranty.

2. Try installing the scanner again from the CD which you had got with your scanner and make sure it is plugged in properly and switched on.

I have that same hp scanner and have had a problem with the scanner, but the printer doesn't work at all. I fixed my scanner by going to the website and downloading the needed drivers. Be cautious though, because I think their website has viruses. Other than that, go to your network neighborhood and click on scanners/digital cameras icon and try to set it up from there. Make sure to reboot the computer and the machine. If that doesn't work, I'm thinking that we have bought ourselves a piece of junk.

If the scanner attaches by USB, try the following.

Control Panel > System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager button

First see if there are any items with a yellow ! triangle in front of them. If, so, right click and uninstall the tiem. That alone may fix the issue.

If not, then find the USB section of the hardware listing. Click on the + to open the details. Right click on and uninstall everything in the USB section. This will clear the listing of devices that the USB has previously detected. Reboot the PC and it should find and reinstall the USB port drivers.

Hopefully after that, if you plug in the scanner, it will redetect and reinstall it.

You can refer to the manual, and work it out the best you can. Then you can contact the Tech support people at Lexmark. You will find that they know the product, and can guide you to the exact problem. Maybe you just don't know how to use the scanner.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

What version of Windows are you using? It sound like there is a usb problem or you need to install the software before you plug the scanner up.

I had this problem last year and to fix it all you have to do is increase the memory allocated to the scanner.
good luck
