I get a sense of superiority by studying hard and knowing what I'm talking about.

Not everyone does get a sense of superiority by degrading others beliefs.
People hate what they fear, the fear what the don't understand.
There are many people who follow a set of beliefs blindly, sometimes without knowing why, because that is what they are supposed to do.
Religion fascinates me. I have been on a spiritual quest for a while so I see different spectrum's of the prism.
Many will say that it is mainly Christians that demean and degrade others but it isn't true, it is just people. Two of the main religions I was taught growing up is Christianity and Wicca. To some Christians I am evil, to some Wiccas I am well.. not Wiccan enough I guess.
Just try to keep faith (in what ever faith you believe)

Where are you going with this? It seems to be something that is on your mind. Is there a big question that this is leading up to or are you simply researching others thoughts? I think that yes some very insecure people(like bully's) derive some feeling of superiority from degrading or demeaning others for their beliefs. It is human nature and it is unfortunate.

Oh its more than a 'sense'!
If someone says you have to respect my religious beliefs because I believe in a magical sky-fairy who, like santa, knows if I've been naughty or nice and will reward me when I die, despite us finding out that all thought and emotion is from the brain I think its from our invisible, intangible soul... when they say I know evolution is wrong because those thousands of scientific books are far too complicated but my 2000 year old holybook says its never wrong so I dont need to learn anything else... etc.
Anyone who believes in nonsense, like fairies, ghosts and anal-probing UFO's deserves to be ridiculed. For such foolish beliefs what other possible reaction can there be? An idea must be distinct before reason can act on it, for superstitious types all you can do is laugh at their ignorance though sometimes its scary - when they are so proud of that ignorance and want to spread it around.

There are a number of people out there who have a low sense of esteem that seem to feel some superiority by taking other people down. This is especially a bad thing when someone's personal beliefs are attacked. OUR FATHER does not expect us to demean others in any way, shape, or form. HE does expect us to Reach out and Teach others about HIM. Thank you for this wonderful, heartfelt question! Have a great week.

No superiority here. I do like for people to know the truth.
Romans 5:8
(8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
All of us!

That is what false pride is. The Ego overcompensating for low self-esteem.

maybe...but these people are just sick and they don't realise that while demeaning and degrading other people's beliefs, they are only making people to love, respect and nurture their beliefs even more...
