I just hope this is not another sign that there is no God. That would be depressing for many.

Every morning when God wakes up and gets out of bed he says well I'm going to save a certain number of people today. I cant save everyone. If I did things would get so crowded down there they would run out of room. I'll just have to save the people randomly Things will be coming at me so fast. When I have the certain number saved I will go back to bed. Then there may be some other entirely different way. BB

You know, that's an interesting question and I don't know that I have the answer to that. I think that we give God credit and blame for things that just happen. When some one dies in a car crash someone in the family inevitably blames God. When someone is saved in a car crash everyone inevitably thanks God. I have seen people that I know who had cancer and were on prayer chains and had many people praying and lifting them up to God and they were completely healed. Is it the power of the prayers and if so why were those prayers more effective than others? I don't know. We will have all the answers one day when we get to heaven and can ask God these things but until that time we will never know for sure/

God neither prevents or causes disasters. If you survived it was not just by the mercy of God. But he does provide us the hope and the strength we would need to continue our lives after this event.
Jesus spoke of a disaster that happened in his time, when a tower fell and killed a number of people. He explained that it was not due to whether they were 'good' or 'evil' that they died, but due to 'time and unforeseen occurrence'.
God is Love, and as such would not cause us to survive while allowing someone else to die. What he has done is provide us with rules, that if we follow, will minimise the chances of things going wrong. And if we are in the wrong place at the wrong time, such as with natural disasters, and survive, then the love and friendship of those close to us will help us repair our lives.

ALLAH is wise . He registerd in abook the ages of the all people long before He created them. if you or your freind have been saved and the man sitting beside you died, this simply because Allah had predomained that you would survive this disaster and the time of death he assigned to you have not come yet ,while the age of the man beside you came to an end.the system of Allah is the wisdom in what He does.i answered you from the islamic point of view

He doesn't choose who and who not to save. Some people tap into his protection by praying, studying his Word, and some people just follow their "gut feelings" not to go to a certain place at a certain time, and that can be His guidance too. He doesn't "call people home," and he doesn't cause disasters. We have free will, and part of that free will is to follow His guidance.

Rom 9:14
Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not! 15 For God said to Moses,
“I will show mercy to anyone I choose,
and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.”[i]
16 So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.
17 For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, “I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.”[j] 18 So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.
19 Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?”
20 No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into? 22 In the same way, even though God has the right to show his anger and his power, he is very patient with those on whom his anger falls, who are destined for destruction. 23 He does this to make the riches of his glory shine even brighter on those to whom he shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory. 24 And we are among those whom he selected, both from the Jews and from the Gentiles.

No there's no system. Is this the argument from incomplete devastation?
A plane crashes and kills 187 people - but one survives - that PROVES God exists because it shows his mercy! Some joke.
God doesn't exist. I guess he wasn't in a 'saving asians' mood when the tsunami hit, huh?

That's kind of a silly question.
Who can question the authority of God?
It's been said that God never takes anyone before their time. He knew them before they were born and he knew the day and the hour they would leave this world.
