Absolutely, sales is the one job, where there really is no ceiling. Depending on your natural skill, level of diligence, and actual product you're selling, the sky's the limit. Just make sure that you're fully aware of the pay scale before you take a job. Also, if you find that you're successful, don't be afraid to ask for more money. Nothing will help your employer give you more money, like more money in his or her pocket

In theory, yes. By the way, it's not called salary but "sales commission" and it's a percentage of what you actually sell.

Remember that the dealer only make a few hundred dollars on the average for each car sold so how much can a salesman make per car? Let say $ 200. You'll need to sell 430 cars a year to make $86,000. That's more than a car every day if you work 365 days a year. Not very likely.

I'll say half of that amount or $ 43,000 a year is more likely. A quarter of that or $21,500 is probably more common.

Yes, it is possible, although car salespeople are not on salary, but on commission, which means they only make a small percentage of income for every car they sell. My ex is a car salesman at a very busy Mercedes dealer in an average metro area and he made close to that in his first year. The salesperson with the lowest income made $73,000 and the highest made well in excess of $100,000 in 2005.

Keep in mind that this is the biggest, busiest and most prestigious dealership in the entire area, so these are the highest incomes that salespeople in an average area can make. Most car salespeople in other less expensive dealerships (Hyundai's, Fords, etc.) will make much less. According to the attached article, beginning auto sales people in the Los Angeles area make between $35,000 and $40,000 to start and go up from there.

Most car salesmen are paid a salary plus comission per sale....so if you were one of only a few at a busy dealer then yes its possible, or at a really expensive car dealership. But I would say the average is probably more like 30,000-35,000 per year

Many dealers place help wanted ads, claiming incomes up to $100,000, which can happen, but it takes years of hard work to reach that level.

For 1st years sales, $40,000 is a good goal to aim at. You have no established customer base, few referrals, and have to work bell to bell in order to get in front of the most people possible.

If a salesperson stays at one dealership, builds up a loyal customer base, and follows up with all customers and prospects, then they can easily surpass the $100,000 mark.

The key is to sell a mix of new cars along with Used cars. Used cars is where the money comes in, but new cars help to bump your monthly sales, and helps you achieve your sales goal monthly.

Probably not possible to have a "salary" of 86k.

But a great salesman, who busts his butt and is in an area that is not experiencing economic problems could make that.

I used to date a guy that made over 100k a year selling cars. He was a great salesman!

Sure, if you're good. Folks at the top of their craft in auto sales can earn 6 figures easily. If you don't push enough units out the door to make at least $30k you probably won't last very long.

you ought to purchase a motor vehicle from a dealership OR a private guy or woman while you're paying money for it. you could not purchase a motor vehicle which you attempt to finance considering you at the instant are not sufficiently previous to be held in charge for the settlement.

The commission is very low, and cars/trucks are high priced items, so if you sell cars in lots of 20's all the time, I think you can, but no one is that good of a salesman. Your answer is NO.
