I am starting high school next year right, well since i am going to a private high school a few kids each year get scholarships. well one of my friends got a scholarship for a year for his grades and he does nothing. he does most of his homework in homeroom and hardly studies for antything. he gets away with it too and i am over here working really hard for next year and he gets a scholarship for 500.00!! i really think that this is awful and it is not fair. i am not saying that i should have gotten the scholarship either but it is still not right that he gets it while there are others out there who deserve it. please help me with my problem!!

Mmmmm...this is a tough one. Sorry it has you feeling down.

Maybe the scholarship offerers saw something in your friend that was a need you may not see. Perhaps with his lax attitude, they figured they should give him the scholarship to increase his motivation about getting to college and following through with it. It could be a way to set a spark in him to get him doing what he should for his education.

On the other hand, that in no way would make you feel better. It may explain their thinking, but I know how that hurts - the same kind of thing happened to me.

Just know that because of your hard work, you will have an easier time at college, while your friend - though given $500 help - will be desirous for MORE help when he actually gets there because he will not have the skills and knowledge that you have. As cheesy as it sounds, that right there could be your reward - the skills and habits you are forming right now by working so hard.

Best wishes to you! Keep your chin up! :o)

Life is not fair, - I hope no one ever told you it would be. There will always be people who are better off than you and don't deserve to be. Please don't waste another minute of your life thinking about them. Concentrate instead on being the best person you can be.
Another way to approach this, (and this would take a real man to accomplish) would be to congratulate him on receiving the scholarship! You would have to find real strength to do this, but if done with sincerity, I guarantee it would make you feel like the better person.
Good luck in your high school career!
