I had a virus on my computer which disallowed editing the registry.I have cleared the virus but still cant edit the registry.what should I do.I need help.

Do a repair install. This link will give you screen shots and instructions. Your personal settings and data will not be affected but you will have to reinstall any updates, patches, etc. that came out after your install disk was manufactured. I selected XP Pro but the steps are the same for XP Home:

Do a repair installation of Windows XP using your installation cd. It will boot into setup and you need to select the option -- it will then replace the system files on your hard drive while leaving your personal data intact.
