Sometimes I think back many years ago to my first love, that I knew I had to let go, but I still feel bad about it, as if I wish badly that things could have worked out, and that I didn't hurt her when I dumped her, but I know for a fact there was no other choice. And I wouldn't want to go back with her, but I remember, in those short moments, how good things were with us.
Usually I feel this way when I hear a favorite song that reminds me of her because it played when we were together. Or smell her favorite perfume that a female stranger is wearing as she walks by in a Mall. Perhaps this is the effects of love that you can't escape...even though you know the relationship was a failure, you can never forget them no matter who else you're with. (not that your thinking about them all the time ofcourse...just once in a great while)
Does anyone else feel this way about their past ex's? Tell me about it. How do you feel? And how do you cope with it?

backward_thinker - Thank you for that. Knowing that it's normal to feel this way is refreshing. This is an interesting feeling. I just saw her on MySpace too, and she seems to be doing well. Her face brings back so many memories.

Cute bird0422 - We talked once online a few months ago, which was a suprise. But I learned that the reasons we broke up was still there. I feel we weren't meant to be, I'm married to the perfect woman now, but I guess I just have the normal feelings of reembering the past and feeling it in my heart.

Braking up with someone you like is a very unpleasant experience, but sometimes you just have to. Another aspect of this, is that as time passes, you tend to remember the good things more than the bad.

Exactly what I have to do in this few months time.
I have to leave my bf in UK cuz I have no choice or to go back to the States. I was only in UK for my job which lasted an year.
He doesn't seem to think it's real. He still feels I will stay...
But I did try my best to tell him what he needs to do for me to stay, and he doesn't understand, so I have to leave.
I might be loosing something huge, but timing always counts.
The two must make their best effort to be together, but can't come in just from one side. It must be together.
So what you've done in a past was a must. That experience is still in your heart, and what made you learn what love is.
If you two are really ment to be, you should contact the girl, and see how she's doing. If she seem to be interested in seeing you again, maybe you two WERE ment to be.
You got to try everything you can in a relationship. Or you will regret always in your life.

Just think of the good things that happened while you were together and be happy knowing you are with someone who you are good with now. sometimes i wish that I could be friends with an ex, but since our breakup is still recent i know that can't happen yet. He was my best friend and I miss that. But I don't miss being with him. But we had good times and bad times and I just look back at it from time to time. But i don't really wanna go back into the past. I just want to move on into the future.

It's not bad reminiscing the past because it constituted much to your present but there are memories better left in the past without regrets.Move on and just think for a fact that there's a reason for everything that happened in our lives.

This is a very natural feeling. It happens to all of us at sum points of time i guess. The best way to deal with it is being friends with that person. When u guys r friends and in contact with each other,u would feel less guilty knowing that she's doing fine without u and moving on with her life. And if she's having trouble,no harm in helping her out.Relationships do not necessarily have to end in a bitter way...and even if they do..when u get matured..u should try to remove the bitterness from your heart.good luck:)

i do... i knew from the very first day that our relationship was a failure but still i continued it... and less than a month, our relationship ended... it has hurted me for a few months... but now, as i was looking back... i realized that it was better where it lasted.. coz it wasnt really the kind of relationship i wanted... he wasnt and will never be the guy i dream and want to share my life's moments with... we are not meant to be... yup, memories will always be there to reminisce but its just to reminisce, it shouldnt bring your whole heart and mind back to the person not woth it of you...
