I'm a Hotel Management college student and I'm supposed to have a five-month internship in the South East Asian region. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to begin. I've thought of Maldives, Singapore and Malaysian Borneo but I don't really know how the situation is there. Could somebody please give me info on those areas or suggest another place.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

It's a shame you have to stick to South East Asia - Dubai is the hottest place for a hotel internship right now.

You will have lots of trouble getting a visa to work in Bali unless your Indonesian. Your best chance is probably Singapore.

I believe the standard of the hospitality industry in South East Asia is high in Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. There are the usual big hotel chains such as Hilton, Hyatt, Shangri-La (renowned especially in Asia), Marriott, Sheraton. Since these are international names I'd suggest you locate in main capital cities as English would be widely spoken and the experience offered would be comprehensive and typical; as opposed to places like Maldives, or Malaysian Borneo.

Colleges here in Singapore-Kuala Lumpur offering Hotel Management studies may have some kind of arrangement with specific hotels for practical training whereby students get hands-on experience.

Singapore would be just nice for you. The island is multi-racial and the hotels serve all kinds of cuisine and you'll get to serve guests from all over the world. On top of that, the Muslims there are very moderate and the place is absolutely safe and clean. It's also a great place to learn another language. Although English is the official language, Chinese, Malay and Tamil are widely spoken too. In addition, it's only a hop away to Bali, Malaysia and Indonesia if you want a side trip.
