The same as for cats with short hair. Remedies you put on to the skin of the cat's neck. It takes a couple of weeks to clear the cat completely from fleas but as long as you keep putting it on the cat's neck once every month you will have a flea-free cat. Have a chat with yout vet about which remedy to use.

Frontline Plus (not top spot) is another remedy. Shaving your cat could result in killing your cats beautiful sleek coat and your cat would turn into a matted fluffy cotton ball! Flea collars and cheap store neck drops aren't ideal because they don't kill all the stages of the flea life cycle. Frontline is the only product that kills the egg, larval, cocoon and adult stages of the fleas. Also, don't wash your pet 2-3 days before or after you apply it. Frontline works with the natural oil of the pets hair. Within that time span, it gets absorbed into the hair and evenly distributed over the body. By washing your pet, you're taking away the oil and the Frontline has nothing to help it distribute properly. Frontline takes up to 20 hours to work. If you want a quick but temporary fix, you can go take your pet to the vet and get a Capstar tablet. It's a little pill that is ingested and almost immediately kills the fleas on the pets body. But it only lasts for a couple of days. Hope this helps!

Couldn't agree more with DeeDee1980 - that's sound advice. I would recommend Frontline over all the other products and as the cat is long haired the spot on is probably easier as you need quite alot of the spray to cover a long haired animal.
I have a Maine Coon with very long hair and an allergy to fleas and as long as we keep him treated with Frotnline spoton he's absolutely fine.

suggest that if the flea powder and collars do not work well enough, drastic action should be taken by giving your cat a haircut, (preferably not in Winter). use a small dog coat to keep the cat warm and indoors during the time the pet is bald and ugly. Save the hair and put it into a bowl of warm water. Apply disinfectant to remove fleas and their eggs. Drain and rinse 3 times before allowing the hair to dry. Save the hair in a bag. After three or four such 'haircuts' you will have enough hair to knit your pet a coat which will keep it warm during any subsequent infestation 'haircut'. PS Bald cats are very prone to purring on the warm lap of us shuumins!

Frontline. Either the drops for the back of the neck or the spray. Both are good & I have used them on a long haired cat I used to have. Available from vets or online vets

Frontline works on my cats, and two of them have very long hair. It is expensive but worth it to not have fleas!!

Take your cat to the vet and they will prescribe a liquid form which you need to drop on the back of the cat's neck about twice a year. Simple and effective and, in the long run, cheap as chips.
