What a silly question.

lol. I think that smell should not stop you from helping the poor. They do not have enough money and/or have the proper mind set to keep clean. If they were lucky enough to have a house and running water and soap that so many take for granite then they would be clean.

Because they have a poor self image, and often there may be no water, or soap available to clean themselves. Perhaps it has been shut of for non payment. There may be no clean clothes to wear, or no laundering facilities. And often the attitude about cleanliness does not exist.
They need help in learning how to keep themselves healthy and clean , and it may well start with water and soap being made available. There is sometime addiction to alcohol or other substances that brings on these problems, of poverty and uncleanliness. You may help indirectly by donating funds to an Organization that helps the poor in your area.

I guess they cannot afford to be clean.
Take in consideration the principal needs of living...shelter and food...the rest comes after...cleaning is probably down the chain. Poor people do not plan for years ahead, they live day by day, so health is not a priority on the moment

if you are given a choice between spending your meager income on soap & shampoo's or streching your budget so you could eat at least once a day, what would you choose?

obviously, you would'nt want to starve!

so, if you truly want to help them, just try to ignore the dirt & the smell!

...try giving a gift basket filled with canned goods, bread, etc... then, throw in a couple of soap, shampoo... you get the idea...

Plug your nose. Not all poor people are dirty and smelly.

The one thing you will not do, Invite them to your house for a nice hot bath and meal and help them get back on their feet.
