It's 5 am here, and I simply cannot sleep. I'm restless and my heart is pounding... I don't have anything planned for today that I would be anxious about, and nothing has happened recently that I'd be feeling anxious over either. I do have a history of bad social anxiety...but this is unlike anything I've felt before. I'm not on any medication, or taking any drugs that would make me paranoid or high-strung like this. I have tears in my eyes just typing this, But I've been thinking for almost an hour about what I could be so stressed about..and my mind is just blank. Can anyone help me relax? Does anyone have any suggestions as to medication I could ask my doctor about when I have sudden feelings like this? If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

I get the same way! I usally just have to distract myself, or sometimes if that doesnt work i'll write down everything i'm thinking until i get it all out of my system. I get upset over nothing or tiny little things that seem like nothing in the light of day. I'm accually doing it now, thats why I'm up too, just killing time till I tire out so i will finnally go to sleep. my docs gave my xanax for it. you could ask about it, it works for alot of people, but i accually dont like it myself. i have nightmares when i sleep on it, and i recently began to think i might accually be experiencing "rebound anxiety" from it cause i feel like the next day after i've taken it i get even more worked up. but like i said, it does help some people. it works for my hubby. the important thing to remeber is that it will pass! i have been having panic attacks since I was 6. its quite common for people to have them for no reason. when i finally relized what they were they became easier to deal with. some of the anti depressant drugs also work on anxeity and could head the attacks off instead of having to wait to get one and then medicate. you should talk to your doctor about all options. I'm rabling cause its late and i'm having some axiety too, so I'm sorry for that, but I hope that it helps. atleast you know your not alone!

It sounds like you're having a panic attack. I get them all the time for "no reason" too. That's why I'm up right now. An antidepressant can help tremendously. Also, try breathing techniques/meditation. If you can put everything out of your mind and concentrate on your breathing and your body you can calm yourself down w/o any medication--Takes Practice! Good Luck!
