which one should i buy ? A digital movie (i.e SANYO Xacti series) or the usual Prosumer digital camera ?

please help me decide...

Depends entirely on what you want to do with the camera. If you are mainly interested in video making then buy a camcorder, many of which will take still pictures but of a small size - 1 or 2 megapixels. If, however, you are mainly interested in taking good still pictures buy a prosumer or bridge camera which has a video making function - not a DSLR however as they don't make videos.

As someone said it depends on what you want as the outcome. If you like watching movies of places you have been then a camera will make less sense. If you are mainly interested in photos and want something compact to carry all the time then most camcorders will not work.

There is a Canon that is both a still and movie camera. It has still zoom capabilities. It is a large item if all you want is photos.

See if you can borrow or rent one from someone and figure out what you prefer.
