Chinatown has many cheap restaurants that are excellent (if you're on a tight budget consider eating your large meal in the afternoon instead of at night; lunches are generally less expensive.
The East Village is just block after block of (mostly inexpensive) ethnic restaurants. You can start at 14th Street and walk down Second Avenue - walk down to 1st Street and then come back up First Avenue. Get a bahn mi (Vietnamese hero sandwich at Nicky's Sandwiches on Avenue A and East 2nd Street. While you're down there, go to a candy stand (there are newspapers outside) on Avenue A and East 6th Street (across the street from Tompkins Square Park) - get an egg cream - a very New York drink (about $1 - and this place makes a great one).
To save money, check out take-out places near your hotel and take it back to your room when possible.

I was in New York in november for the first time and it's got cheap and cheerful restaurants on every other corner I was suprised by the quality of the food even in the smallest place's I would recommend going anywhere the local people eat and you can't go wrong try to stay away from the obviously touristy places. Hope you have a ball it's a great city to visit.

There are many places in the city..one of my favorites is Turkish Kitchen on 3rd Ave 28th St. for lunch. You get a huge complete lunch...appetizer, or soup, plus salad, many choices of entrees, coffee/tea and several unusual desert choices all for about $14. Atmosphere and decor is very nice and service is good.

the fee-element you reference is puzzling to discover in enormous apple, notwithstanding if that's executed. My very own popular is the Woogo significant Park. they have rooms that ring in under $2 hundred/nighttime, yet you could desire to droop your classic definition of "lodge:" somewhat, that's extra like staying in somebody's place of abode. you purely get linen service two times a week, yet you have got dishes, plates, a mini-kitchen, and so on. in short, each and all of the comforts of homestead, albeit in a small yet attractive place of abode-like room. terrific of all is the community -- placed on 73rd street close to Broadway, you're in one among enormous apple's very terrific residential neighborhoods, and interior consumer-friendly strolling distance of significant Park, Lincoln midsection and Columbus circle. something of the city is purely minutes away by subway. I stayed right here years in the past while i replace into considering my circulate to the city. I enjoyed my stay, and that i've got because of the fact despatched many out of city travelers right here besides. It truly qualifies as "low value and pleased." rejoice with enormous apple!
