People who are employed only work 40 hours a week, are entitled to a 20 minute break every 4 hours, a lunchbreak, days off, sick leave, 3 weeks holiday a year, but full time mums have to work 365 days a year, 12 hours a day with no break and not even an uninterrupted nights sleep.
If we want a holiday we have to beg/pay someone to take our kids away.

Well if noone 'chose' to have kids and be subjected to this work then there would be no more humans. So I think we deserve more appreciation that what we do is a worthwhile job, actually the most important job in the whole world and not just something we 'chose' to do.

I just want to clarify that I love being a mum I wasn't asking this question completely seriously like I don't think theres anyway that we would be able to have breaks and holidays, and being a mum is the most rewarding thing ever, it just gets on my nerves sometimes that it isn't seen as being a job. It is a very hard job just because it is a nice job does not stop it being very difficult.
Thats like saying being a zookeeper isnt a job because its enjoyable. YOu still have to scrape out crap and deal with sick animals.

It isn't fair, but it is a choice that you made. You could have gone out to work instead, but you decided to stay at home being a mum. Remember, the most challenging jobs are the most rewarding.

I'm not going to get into fair or unfair but I do want to give a perspective.
Yes, my job is to be a MOM and I work really hard at it - no it is not an easy task but it is one that I CHOSE.
Now, you go to work 40 hours a week. During your time at work or away from work, do people talk to you only about your job or stuff related to your job?
Everyone could make a small difference in a stay at home mom's day by simply talking about the weather and not talking just about her kids, the latest cleaning product, baby food, diapers, bed times etc. Maybe just tell her the latest funny joke - believe me- she probably could use the laugh.

Who is it that you want appreciation from? If its me then i take my hat off to you and all mums. Although I'm not a mum myself I'm sure it is the hardest job in the world but you said yourself its the most rewarding so doesn't that even it out? Not everyone has the "qualifications" for this job and may never get the experience.
So to sum up, you are one of the hardest workers in the world, you love your job, you think its the most rewarding job in the world and you don't have to clean up animal crap. so what are you moaning for?
well done to the mum above.

Nobody said it was fair...it's not supposed to be fair. You're a parent, and that's part of the plan. You don't get paid to be a mum, so you're not going to get all those other "benefits", but the rewards of being a mum should be enough.
Hope you get a break...

Its not fair, but thats the responsibility people take on when they have kids. At work i can just switch the computer off at the end of the day and go home, I wont be able to switch my baby off.

Because you get all the fantastic stuff too - the first word, the laughs, the joys as they discover new things, your delight when they do well at stuff, your amazement when they do something completely unexpected - only a parent gets to experience this stuff and it far outwieghs a few sleepless nights don't you think??

Didn't you realise what was involved before you had your kids?
Your reward is the contribution to the continuation of our species that you have made. Also you can arrange your work in a way that suits you, not your boss.

Its fair because your responsible for your children no one else, nor should anyone else be. In most cases you chose to have children and it is up to you to suffer both the ups and downs.
Many moms and dads have to work as well as look after the children.
