GO AHEAD and carry it. Yes and by all means be ready to defend yourself. What's the court fine if you are caught with it? 50 pounds. ??? Who cares, you'll be better off with a can in your purse and ready to fend off some violent drunk.

Chemical sprays such as mace and CS gas are outlawed in the UK under the firearms act and are treated as severely as pistols (with a maximum 10 year sentence) for unlawful possession. It is impossible to get a permit to possess one of these.
My recommendation is for a woman a bottle of perfume with a high alcohol content, a can of body spray, and for a man a maglite torch or a can of body spray. remember to run away once your attacker has stopped attacking you and then you arent deemed to have gone too far!!

No, it's illegal. Mace is classified as an offensive weapon in the
UK.
If you are looking for tips on self-defence, go to a local course. Although I hear jamming a bunch of keys very hard into an assailant's face is extremely painful for them...

It's illegal, classed as an offensive weapon.
Try searching for self-defence classes at evening class or similar, a lot of councils offer these, or ask the police for a recommendation.

I think it depends on the chemical the spray contains, a sensible guide seems to be if you can buy it in the UK, its ok to own it in the UK.
The UK sucks, when it comes to self defense.
