You need to be 18, and you need to graduate high school.
You need to take the ASVAB at your local federal building, and you need to be physically fit.
If you're okay so far, think about what kind of service the Marine Corps is. You need to be ready to go into combat, you need to be ready to be rigourously disciplined, and you need to be able to adjust to male-lockerroom-type environment, heavy on testosterone.
Still interested? Call a recruiter.

It amazes me at some of the responses how people will tell you things and they have not a clue. Example, you can be an officer with a little college and then get recommendations. Bottom line to be an officer in the military you must have a 4 year degree, period! Now for your question. There are many requirements to get into the military. Your medical history is very important, due you have asthma, are you or have you been on Ritalin, due you or have you had any physiological disorders, are you PG, any STD's. Next is law violations. This makes a huge difference on type of job one can have and also whether you can even get into service. Each branch has different requirements as law violations go. Must meet height and weight standards. All this you must meet before you ever get to take the ASVAB. Now each Branch has different requirements you must score on the ASVAB. The higher you score on the test the more jobs that are offered to you at MEPS. As you can see not everyone qualifies for the military. Is much harder to get in these days than it used to be. We are really looking for some really good people without to much baggage these days.

to join the military any branch,
hsd or ged,
must not be pregnant at time of enlistment
must have clean record no felonies.
something to think about also,
if you want avianics, go air force or navy,
nursing is a good field to get into.
any job in the service that you can make a living out
in the civilian world is a real plus,
some jobs that are only military related that doesnt have
a civilian counterpart, is something to re think.
marines, tell you what to do and when to do it,
the other three branches you can decide what
if its available to has as a job(mos) in service.
if you want an officers job in service if you
have no college education, then you must wait til you
have been in for a while and get references to go to
officers training.
if you have any college education then its highly likely to
go in as officer after training.
hope this helps
you can call your local recruiters office for more info

I just got out of the Marines five months ago. I was in for four years. I did two years with security forces and the rest of my time was with an infantry battallion. I don't know anything about your background but this is definitely a decision not to be taken lightly. If you're considering college, then I would say go do that first, by the time your done you may not even want to join anymore. If you were wanting to join the Marines for college money, then I would say join the reserves. However, doing so will greatly limit your choices for military occupations, but you won't be committed very often, unless your reserve unit gets activated. You should ask your recruiter if that particular unit is schedualed to be activated. If you decide to join you need to do your research and find out what the jobs your wanting actually consists of. If you talk to people who are currently in or used to be in, they can usually give you a fairly accurate description of "real" day to day life. Recruiters have a quota that they have to fill. If they don't they get sent back to their old job and it looks bad on their record. I'm not saying that they will lie to you, but they certainly won't tell you about all the bullshit that you can expect to deal with on a regular basis. If I had it all to do over again, knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't. I've forgotten nearly everything I learned in highschool, and now that I'm trying to go back to college its pretty hard. I'm having to pay to take classes that I took in the ninth grade. Not to mention all of my friends are graduating and starting real careers and I'm stuck sitting in a classroom with a bunch of 18 year olds who think they're still in highschool. I did have some good times while I was in, but I also had some of the most miserable times of my life while I was in. Ultimately this is your decision. If you decide to join, the most important factor is information. Make sure you know what your getting into, don't just take the recruiters word for it.

It depends on what your goals are. You can have either a GED or a HSD. If you want a high tech career, I would opt for either the Navy or the Air Force. All military branches have their pros and cons, however, I would do my research into all of them before making any decisions.

You have to be 18 years old or 17 years old and have your parents permission to join. You also have to have your high school diploma and have no criminal record or physical defects of any kind, you have to meet the weight and height requirements as well. Other then that you are good to go.
