I think I've found the reason behind that. Atheists fervently read it to find a flaw and mess up a Christians views. Christians don't read it because somewhere in their mind they know it's false. What do you think?

Are you a troll, trying to annoy both persuasions? ;-)

The way you've phrased the first part is just giving fuel to the fundamentalists' helllfire and dismissive attitudes towards anyone who believes other than they do.

I read the Bible because I was raised a devout Christian. I studied it seriously at university and completed the first year of a MDiv degree before I got thoroughly fed up with the hypocrisies of Christianity as it's practiced.

Today, when I refer to the texts, it's to make certain that I'm remembering something correctly or to try to understand the point that a Christian is making.

I really wish that a few more Christians would actively study the points that they're criticizing -- and from the original sources, not the biased mis-information that fills so many Christian publications. I'm giving them that much respect, why won't they do the same for me?

C.S. Lewis was a great philosopher and atheist in his time and taught at a very well known university in England. He decided to give a course to students on why the Bible was flawed and inaccurate and set out to prove it. The more He tried to discredit it through his research the more he found to be true. By the time his course was completed, he was a converted Christian and continued from that time on to dedicate his life to studying and teaching the bible. One of his greatest accomplishments was a book he entitled " Mere Christianity " which I would recommend for anyone either Christian or atheist to read because it deals with all the questions that surface this forum.

In my journey, that's the absolute case. i know maximum of staggering and chuffed those that are atheists or agnostic who've examine the bible and understood the context, as have I. not all, yet many many Christians i know are the main uneducated and judgmental human beings I actual have come to fulfill. Ironic, yet I see it daily. working example, purely inspect the countless ignorant judgmental comments left by a number of those "followers of Christ." You human beings sit down right here and choose atheists all day long and you have on no account met any human beings; it is lack of understanding, and not very Christian-like i might upload. I dislike generalizations as lots because of the fact the subsequent guy, yet this question posed applies heavily in my very own journey.

As an ex-Seventh-Day Adventist who now has a lean more towards Paganism and the esoteric, I USED TO read the bible a lot. That is why I my knowledge of the Bible is great and also why it lost it's appeal for me. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that there is a link to ex-Christians that were once very zealous with the Bible study and who now call themselves Atheist and/or Pagan. I assume that a lot of Atheists also come from a background where they were in an environment whereby they became over-familiar with the contents of the Bible. I personally don't sit around reading the bible now. In fact, I wouldn't even be able to find where it is. I rely on my past knowledge of it, I am not obsessed with it.

I am an Atheist and I have tried to read the bible and I can`t get past the Old testament .I can`t believe people really believe all this nonsense. The bible is no different that Greek and Roman Mythology with its fantastic but unbelievable stories to explain everything from thunder to fire .I find it hard to accept that the human race is still so backward in its need for immortality that it clings to religion ." People wake up" . You are being used by the religious hierarchy to fund lavish lifestyles for its leadership.
Have they ever produced this God that only they can see and talk too ?

I can't help but notice that many atheist posts (not all) simply repeat fundamentalist doctrine, most of which is not found in Scripture. Others are drawn from common lists of Bible contradictions that are found all over the internet. Occasionally, I see an atheist post that reflects actual Bible reading.

Case in point: look at the guy below. He regards the Old Testament as literature comparable to Greek and Roman mythology. That is a popular view among those who have never actually read the book. The Old Testament, whether accurate or not, belongs in the category of ancient historical accounts, and contains far less 'mythological' material than many ancient historical accounts. Dionysius Halicarnasus, for example, includes more mythology in Roman Antiquities than the entire Old Testament - but no one who has read Roman Antiquities would try to categorize it as 'mythology.'

It reminds me of an episode of 'Just Shoot Me' where Nina is talking about elves and fairies - she says, "Read your Bible, man!"

I believe there may be some truth to that.... It was stated that the devil knew more about Scripture than the most learned scholars of the testaments..... and will quote them for you even as twisted.... Now, if one were not up on biblical literaracy, then it would be very easy to be decieved.....

Perhaps a reason why atheists read the scriptures, is not only to seek to convince Christians that they have a fallacy of a written word to follow, but to convince themselves that when the time comes, they know it well.......

No, I don't read the Bible, never had, I don't need to read a fairy tale.

I don't need to point out any errors in the book, I understand that it is an important historical document, but its not religious facts.

I am an atheist, but I have respect for other peoples belief. Even though it migth not seam like it, taking some of my questions and answers here.

On one level, sounds a reasonable argument to me.

I think a lot of the so-called Christians on here only read the bits their loony preachers point out to them.

The Last Ent Wife may be the exception rather than the rule - a real Christian posting to Answers,

OOPS, THEN AGAIN, I JUST READ HER ADDITIONAL COMMENT - IGNORE THE PARAGRAPH ABOVE THIS ONE!

I disagree, I read the Bible daily.

As to what you said "Atheists fervently read it to find a flaw and mess up a Christians views" I agree completely with that.

And in their flawed and sinful natures they find some little scripture that they can pretend is a contradiction, all so that they can ease the pain in their minds about their own guilt.
