AIDS is and entirely preventable disease. It will never go away. The fact that Magic Johnson has been living with AIDS for over ten years is in some ways a good thing (for him) and in other ways a bad thing. It is a good thing because it does show that AIDS is a manageable problem. It is a bad thing in the fact that it make more people think that if he can live with AIDS, then they can as well. What people do not realize is that the drugs which he must take every day to manage AIDS are extremely expensive. It is not possible for the average person to afford it "live with AIDS" like Magic. If memory serves me correctly, the drug coctail he must take costs upwards of $10,000 per month to maintain. Who has that kind of money? It is insurmountable for most people to begin to think about affording. Most all of these drugs are not covered by insurance either private or government. That means an out of pocket expense of about $120,000 just to survive. The average person makes $40,000 per year. This is not practical. Eventually, AIDS will become just anouther disease which we live amongst. Right now, it is a bigger problem then people realize.

It is preventable through education and awareness and not by making people that have AIDS feel like they are inferior. Most people that have AIDS in the world are children and need love and compassion, not a blind eye.

AIDS is a grief for mothers and close people of the people who got it. For the people themselves it's a chance to start a completely different life to be able to live a little bit differently. I think such people should have a lot of strength or to learn to be strong.

I've known a few people who have died from HIV related conditions through drug abuse. A lot more can be done to tackle this issue. Recent reports in Great Britain state that sexually transmitted diseases are a steady increase here.
