after running the faucet, he jumps up and licks the faucet. i wash his bowl every day, and change his water often. every time i fill his bowl, he tips it over and wont drink it. he only wants to drink from the faucet. why is he doing this, even though i wash his bowl daily, and change his water often? is he just picky, or am i doing something wrong?

Hi there...some cats prefer to have fresh running water vs. standing water in a bowl. Consider a pet water fountain which he may really enjoy since it's constant running/cascading water.

Here are some water fountains:

Hi, you are not doing anything wrong. I have 6 cats and feed 15 cats in a neighborhood feral colony, and have noticed for many years, that cats prefer fresh RUNNING WATER, TO BOWLS OF WATER. I have a female that wakes me up in the middle of the night to turn the bathtub or sink water on as she won't drink from the bowls, no matter what they are made of. Cats drink running water in the wild, as it is NATURAL, AND I THINK CATS JUST ARE PICKY AND KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR THEM. I have 5 other cats and 2 of the 6 will only drink running water, one will drink from the toilet if it is not closed,( heaven forbid) and the others will drink what ever they can, but they prefer running water. In nature, running water is fresh and cats are more picky than dogs for sure. Fresh water is not stagnant and is healthy. I think cats have very sensitive noses and can mayby smell something in sitting water than we can. If you could choose between a glass of water that had been sitting in a glass all day, mayby for two days on the counter or get a sip from the sink, or think of a water fountain, which one would you choose? Just let the sink drip slowly if you can, or mayby try a metal or earthenware bowl. Good luck.It is not you, the cat is just smart!

Cats prefer fresh, running water, don't you? You are not doing anything wrong. Even though you change it often it's still not as fresh as what is coming out of the faucet. It will still be warm and have an odor to it. They have running water fountains specially made for cats to drink out of. You could try to find one of those and purchase it for him if it's becoming a problem. Good luck.

The water is fresher, cooler and does not contain dust or hair. Water on the floor tends to warm up, and lets face it, there is always dust and always hair. Not to mention a little kitty dribble that may turn your cat off to the water bowl. Also what it the bowl made from. Those heavy plastic petfood bowls are sometimes a turnoff to some pets.

It's cold and fresh, and cats (and dogs) love the trickling sound of water! You can Google around and find a water dish that has a battery operated fountain in it, that should keep his interest for awhile.

She simplest beverages out of her bowl whether it is large, ceramic and stuffed in entrance of her. Oh and the salt water pool is first-rate. Cover the entire different assets and refuse to supply in, ultimately they get thirsty and return to their bowls.
