Yes, similar claims were made about social security numbers, and then about bar codes. I think we Christians should take a lesson from history and decide to stand back and wait before we make such claims.
If you're curious about the mark of the Beast, note that in Revelation it says the mark will be IN the hand or the forehead, not ON the hand or the forehead. Interesting, to say the least.

Unlikely, the mark of the beast has to do with spirituality or morality. It is something that shows that one is allied to the aims of the "beast" instead of to God. Things like chips are morally neutral.

It is a possibility that it could be, but we won't know until it happens. Personally I don't want to take any marks. Just to be on the safe side.
