My wife is on effexor xr, about 500 mg a day. This is not a med to take "as needed", but one that is meant to be taken long term. You need to take it everyday for the levels to maintain in your body.

Jennifer, please think really hard about going off of your medication. I don't know how long you have been on it, but hopefully at least a year to prevent a relapse (studies) Also, keep in mind that effexor will not work unless you take it every day. They have found recently that the reason it takes so long for the medications to start working is that they are actually growing new nerve receptors for the neurotransmitters in the brain. In other words, this is a physical illness. The reason I would use caution is the high risk of relapse and also because I take effexor so I know that it can have some really strange and serious side effects when you stop taking it. I suggest talking to your physician. It is safer and better to stay on it than to lose months or years of your life to another depression. Good luck.

i changed into written Effexor somewhat of the XR, because the XR is customary to reason weight benefit. My brother in regulation received 30 lbs in some months taking XR. I not in any respect were given my Effexor crammed because of comments I pronounced on the web. I stuck to my Lexapro, which made me benefit 40 lbs contained in the previous 12 months yet has worked wonders. I purely received weight at the same time as i changed into at an excellent dose.

you can now get 37.5 mg. in saying this i am currently trying to wean myself off and it isn't as easy as ppl think.

i feel sick most of the time and feel fuzzy in my head.

you have to options either keep taking them because the side effects are too bad or just push yourself through it and hope that you don't fall into a heap because you feel like crap.

as for having down days the best thing that i can suggest is to make sure you have a good support network of friends and family. buy inspiration books and try to do things that make you feel at ease and calm.

i know its hard when you have a down day but i find that by doing simple and easy things i sometimes feel better.

i also suggest that you see a councillor and talk about how you feel and work together on ways that you can destress yourself and find ways that will make the bad days not so bad.

Effexor is an SNRI (seritonin norepinephine reuptake inhibitor)class drug and may take up to several weeks to fully take effect. taking it once in a while will not work because it will not maintain theraputic levels of the drug in your system. going off the drug too quickly could be dangerous. Please talk to your doctor before you do anything. your doctor is the one who will need to help ween you off if that is the decision you come to. You should evaluate the reasons that you would like to go off your meds. Is it helping with your depression? if not, have you given it sufficent time to work (again SNRIs take time to work) ? Are you having side effects you cannot tolerate? Perhaps you need a diffent medication. My husband is taking Cymbalta, another SNRI class drug and has had good results and no side effects. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about a change in medication if what you are doing not is not helping.

Yes have had it and it made me sick and suicidal, this is what you have to do, cut 10 mg off your pill take like this for a week then go for just over half the pill for just over a week and so on until your just having 10mg a day. then eventually stop. Try to get valium or tamazapan these drugs will relax you for yor down days and you wont have to weind off them. They are however very addictive (cause there so good) so try to have 2 day breaks inbetween. I am annoyed that dr's would rather prescribe phsyco active anti deppressants before they actually give you a prescription for calmatives that actually work. Final comment always see your dr before you come off anti depressants

If you don't take them as advised it can cause you to have a seizure. Only take the medication as advised by your doctor for your own safety. If you'd like to go off of the med. have your doctor help you make a plan on how to safely wean off of it.

it takes time to build up to a therapuetic level in your body. meds such as these have to be slowly weaned from the body and taking one only when you think you need it won't work because the level is gone from your body.
