round faces need some fringe, mine is the same way I finally got it cut short with the hair around my facecombed forward it accentuates your cheek bones & brings out your eyes.

First of all...color depends on your skin color and eyes. It has nothing to do with your face shape.
As for cut...that also depends more on the type of hair you have...straight? wavy? curly? You said you have flat thin hair....if so, NIOXIN is something my mom used on hers...and it helps your hair a lot!!! I think razoring would probably give more life to your hair...but if your hair is curly or wavy thats a no.
You should look at celebrities with your face shape to see what they do to their hair. Showing pictures to hairstylist is very good. Side swept bangs look good usually...but PONYTAILS ARE NEVER FLATTERING ON A ROUND FACE. Longer hair with face layers, i think are flattering. Or a Shoulder length cut.

Go to thehairstyler.com and upload your picture. Then you can see what thousands of different hairstyles and colors like like on you!
For photographs, hold your chin out from your neck and down a little to hide the double chin!

you will problem get either a mushroom effect with a shoulder length cut then you hair is then i would shampoo twice up top condition only the ends let it grow out maybe some face framing layers with side swept bangs having a full fat face as you say there is really only so much you can do about that with out the obvious truth~ it maybe time to change your ways health wise

My friend has this problem too, and she's recently got her hair cut in the style of Victoria Beckham's, the short bob, it really makes her face look thinner as it shapes it and looks lovely.

why dont u submit a picture?
have u ever tried a short bob? where there is more volume at top half of the head and less volume at the base. it looked gr8 on a firend of mine with similar features.
as regards colour u have to match it with ur skintones and not on the shape of ur face

it all depends on how thick or thin your hair is. if your hair is ultra thick,i wouldnt cut it that short because it will frizz out and look like a frizz ball. but if your hair is way thin, the layers would probably blend in together. you could always curl it,to make the flip in her hair in the pic. Basically you have to have the right amount of thickness. hope i helped :)

I'd say shorter with lots of layers, the suggestion about the bob sounds nice too!

hair down, long to medium, with color, red, brown, highlights....something to take the attention off of your chin and have them focus more on the upper part of your face..pulling your hair back gives the eye nothing else to focus on....
