Hello =)

Well.....

Book of James says a lot of things similar to that, but perhaps not exactly that...

In one place, he warns "not to use the mouth that you use to praise God, to denounce others, for a salt spring cannot give up fresh water".......

Which is no doubt where the common "Do you use that mouth to kiss your mamma??" comes from.

Namaste,

--Tom

It's in the 10 Commandments; Thou shall not Bear False Witness against thy Neighbor.(Exodus chapter 20. Verses 3-17. Also in Deuteronomy ch 5: verses 7-21). This means you should not speak a lie about another person.

New International Version)
Romans 14:12-14
So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food[a] is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean

Romans 14:21
It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

James 4:11
Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.

Hope this helps.

Not sure this will help, but when Jesus was sending out his disciples to evengelise in pairs, he instructed them how to approach a town:

First, when they entered a town, they were to give it a blessing.
If the town accepted, the town kept it.
If the town rejected the blessing, it returned to the disciples.

(Matthew 10, I think.)

Again, in Jude's letter, he gives a lesson in keeping your mouth shut by reminding his readers that even when the angel Michael was passing by Satan he didn't utter a word except to say, "the Lord rebuke you."

(Either of those sound familiar?)

James 3 is the passage you're looking for, but I think Matthew 18:7-9 is along those lines:

"Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell."

If what we are doing will cause us to sin or will lead us in that direction away from God, no matter whether it's by what we say or what we do, then it's certainly best not to do it.

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

who knows and who cares? do you actually waist your time believing in that crap too? Why not do something productive like help stop global warming? I dont see your god out there doing anything about it. if anything he's up there rooting on our quick destruction of the planet so he can move on with his floating around doing nothing. for the fact that the planet is billions of years old by now and it took him up to about 10,000 years ago to produce anything that could do more then just eat and kill other creatures for food and survival, im pretty sure he is ready to retire.

I personally don't know of a place where it says that exactly, but the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have them do unto you) might apply to the situation.

The Bible warns against gossip (backbiting) in several verses. Go to Biblegateway.com, and type in the keyword. "Backbiting" works for KJV, "Gossip" works for more contemporary versions.
