After watching The Matrix and a tv show I cant remember the name of now, but it was about a computer generated world and was on fox, with a bunch of friends, we all found ourselves questioning where we came from and what our purpose was but in no way did religion come into any of those thoughts. Anyone care to share? (This was one ounce between 4 people, and was VERY intense)

No-I never had any spiritual insights from shrooms, I just got really really spaced out and paranoid. I've had better insights from drinking rye.

I imagine context counts for a lot. Native Americans use tobacco for spiritual purposes in their sweat lodge, but most people don't get anything spiritual from smoking tobacco. By the same token, if you get a group of like minded people together who feel LSD is going to give them a life changing experience, that may happen. Somebody else could drop acid as a party drug and then wonder what all the fuss is about.

This is my opinion; In general drugs are bad because they cloud your mind. A completely clear mind is the most spiritual mind. A clear mind takes a lot of regular (i.e. doing work on yourself 'religiously') effort.

That said, there are times where your mind can get 'stuck' in some way. Drugs (even alcohol) can be used to 'unstick' someones mind, but I think that needs to be the intent of the person taking the drugs.

If you just take drugs, without any spiritual or ongoing self-reflection, you're just amusing yourself at best and probably harming yourself. You may inadvertently 'unstick' your mind in a spiritual way, but it will be completely meaningless if you don't have any regular spiritual practice. It won't stay with you and you may go back to the drug looking for that spiritual experience.

Again, my opinion, but I'd say you got your mind 'unstuck'. The question now is, what are you going to do before your mind gets stuck again?

They're called "hallucinations".

A man called Aleister Crowley wrote about similar expirences. He died broke in a flophouse.
