It depends on the rules of the Lost and Found. Won't you feel better if you donate the Lost and Found to Goodwill?
If the Lost and Found doesn't previously have a rule, I'd say 30 days.

It really is up to the place you work at . I work for a hotel and we have to leave things in lost and found for 6 month to a year depending on the item . Socks and underwear we throw away right when we find them . Pillows we keep for around two months.

In CA the law is (at a hotel) you must hold property for 90 days. After that, it's yours.
You should hold it longer than a week. A month at least.

it really depends on the item i think, if it has alot of value like jewelery/electronics, i would give it more time than something like a stuffed animal, or shirt. thomas
