White heads? Don't know what causes them, but I've had plenty.
They are white because they are composed of pus.
If the white head hurts you have three options, each of which has a good and a bad.
#1 you can squeeze the pus out of the pimple, that is, pop the pimple, which will relieve the pain but leave the site red for a day or two
#2 you can tolerate the pain and let the white head go away naturally which could take two or three days
#3 or you can apply something like Clearasil, something that contains BENZOYL PEROXIDE, and that will dry up the zit after a few days.

Not sure of the cause...but a friend just emailed me today and told me she read of a sure fire remedy. Get some Milk of Magnesum and dab it on the areas affected. Let it dry then wash off with warm water. I haven't had my daughter try it yet...but I hope it works.
