I think many Americans turned against the war because of talk of a draft. As long as it was poor kids who were going some people did not care. In a draft even the rich have to send their children.

I'm not sure if it will be this war, but yes I think the law-makers in Washington D.C. will initiative the draft. There has been talk for the past six months. This may be one of the last things Bush will do right before he leaves office.
If you want to serve our Country that is up to you, but staying in
college may keep you from being drafted....

G'day Punkygal20,
Thank you for your question.
No as it requires legislation to introduce it. In 2003 legislation to reintroduce general conscription was defeated in the U.S. House of Representatives due to widespread disapproval among lawmakers and the American public. It is even less likely to be passed in 2006 as the approval rating for the war has headed south in the past three years.
I have attached sources for your reference.
Regards

Think? It isn't even possible. Only those with no military experience would even think so. As a long-range possibility it isn't likely, and there's no way our military could manage such a thing in the next few years. We need an expansion, but that is absolutely the wrong way to go about it.

The Middle East will never be peaceful without ending the Israeli occupation. This is the conclusion of the UN, EU, Backer-Hamilton report, and President Carter new book.

I hope not, but I think it is imminent. People are wising up to enlisting. The current troops are being wasted and abused by their leadership. It is just a matter of time.

there cant be a draft richard nixon signed a bill in 1973 making it unconstitutional. the only way the military can conscript soldiers is to declare martial law in the us. but that would be a coupe.
