1.1 billion Catholics listen to the Pope. That is about 1/6 of the world's population.
Many other Christians and non-Christians also listen to hear what the Pope has to say.
John 21:15-17 states:
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."
He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."
He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.
Matthew 16:17-19 states:
Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.
The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.
With love in Christ.

The Pope is only a figure head like the queen of england is. I think it is more the age of the institution that has the staying power, more than the pope head.

The church has lost touch with the people. What the pope says has little affect these days.

Interesting term Pope. Noticeably absent in the new testament. Funny you never see any of the other apostles or anyone for that matter referring to Peter as pope. I believe this is an example of mens traditons that krept in over time but had no basis in scripture or in what the early church practised. People seem to forget that Peter was married. If you doubt it read Mathew 8:14 When Jesus entered into Peter's house he found his wife's mother sick in bed with a fever. Seems Peter had a wife and a mother-in-law. Just to let you know I'm not anti catholic but a former Catholic.

NO <<< catholics might though..
it is the catholic church that thought to change the laws and times of God, and they openly admit this. and it ruined mainstream christianity. Now there is mass confusion amongst the denominations.
Thank GOD he had me born in America and not in Poland where my great granddaddy was ! Most of Poland is Catholic.
It is a denomination the world could have done without. Hope the true believers heed Jesus warnings about listening to men instead of him !!

Catholics do, and any serious person should.
The current pope is not only a great philosopher and teacher, but a very formidable theologian.
The Muslims sure took notice, didn't they?
