It's time for you to go to KidneySchool http://www.kidneyschool.org
Through kidney school people can learn what they need to know if they or someone they love is facing dialysis.

Dialysis is most commonly used to replace renal function but as a term it can mean any movement of compounds across a permeable membrane. When talking about kidney dialysis it means doing the work of the kidneys through a medical procedure: either peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis.

Dialysis is a method of removing impurities contained in the blood that results from renal failure. Kidney is an organ of filtration of impurities of blood. When kidney no longer performs the task, the impurities like urea, creatinin, etc accumulate in the blood causing a variety of problems leading to death.
In order to remove the impurities of the blood hemodialysis become the only choice. The apparatus called hemodialyser. The blood is taken from one blood vessel of the hand and it is gently passed through a dialyser column. As the blood passes through it the fluffy materials packed around the column take the impurities away. The purified blood that comes out through it is sent back to the body through another vessel in the arm.
A small kit is planted in the arm for this purpose. This is painful. Dialysis takes about four hours. Dialysis is generally done twice a week.
The dialysis machine is also fitted with equipments that measure blood pressure and adder to which desired chemicals or reagents can be mixed to the circulating blood.
Peritoneal dialysis is cumbersome as a small surgery is required for planting a kit.

What is dialysis?
There are two types of dialysis.
Haemodialysis is the most frequently prescribed type of dialysis treatment.
It involves circulating the patient's blood outside of the body through a series of tubes.
The blood is filtered in a way similar to that used by the kidneys by using a chemical bath to draw out waste products.
Most haemodialysis patients require treatment three times a week, for an average of 3-4 hours per dialysis.
Less common is a technique known as peritoneal dialysis, in which the lining of the abdomen acts a blood filter.
Please see the web pages for more details on Dialysis.
