Where have you been asking, that nobody will tell you how to use the deck? The only people who think Tarot is "evil" are those who think that anything "not of God" is evil... and for some reason think that Tarot is "not of God." It's not a way to commune with spirits; it's a way to commune with your own subconscious.
Basically, you ask a question while shuffling the cards. Then you lay down cards to represent different parts of the information. You could do a single card draw, or three cards for past, present, and future. Or you could do the Celtic Cross, which has cards for the Situation, What's in the way of the Situation, The overall goal, the underlying reasons, the immediate past of the situation, the immediate future of the situation, and then you, the people surrounding you, your biggest hopes/fears, and the outcome. There are definitely books and should be sources on the web for more information, or ask specific questions here.

Tarot decks are not bad. Unfortunately there are people out there who label Tarot decks as such out of ignorance and intolerance. The Tarot allows you to connect with your subconscious mind for possible paths at solving problems.
Congratulations on making your own deck. That is impressive. Just by making your own deck, you have conquered a great understanding of this magnificient tool. You know what your cards mean because you created the images. The "trick" to understanding what the cards are telling you is through the symbolism of the images. I hope that makes sense. The cards are more than the name of the card or the central figure (i.e. The Devil). A lot of the meaning comes from the complete picture and the card's relationship to other cards found in the spread and/or the entire deck.
The entire deck tells a story beginning with the Fool. The story is a journey from blissful ignorance to enlightenment from life experiences.
People would suggest reading websites and books to understand the Tarot. Truth be told, the best way to understand is to open your mind and study each card. Write down what each one is telling you. What do you see? How does the card make you feel? After doing this for the entire deck, do a reading for yourself. You can create your own spread. Don't feel like you have to do a spread out of a book. Do what feels right to you. Many people who are really good with readings do not even do the Celtic Cross because of the limitations.
After you have created your own energy, relationship, and meanings, you may want to look at other resources to enrich your own practice.
Bright blessings to you.

God forgive the judgmental. (judge mental?)
The many different tarot decks available will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question.
I am a professional psychic and always have at least 4 different decks on the go at any one time. When a deck get’s a bit too well worn I buy a new deck (often from eBay). I prefer to work with as new a deck of cards as possible so they shuffle and deal smoothly and quickly. I usually sell my old decks on eBay too. Here’s a live RSS feed for Tarot Decks on eBay at the moment. http://feeds.feedburner.com//TarotDeck
You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html
Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

Part of the reason so many people are pooh-poohing the notion is based upon the selective biblical reading guarding against fortune-telling. I say selective since the fact that, despite Jesus' warning against his followers looking for 'signs', many Christians do engage in 'prognostication' and interpretation, instead of living each day.
The Tarot can provide much insight into both the personal and the universal relationship of man to existence, but as with anything, it can be destructive and/or harmful.
The fact that you have spent the time and energy creating your own deck is very good, since any magickal endeavor is best begun when channelled through the individual. A simple way to read them is to start as you would interpreting a dream; what do the symbols mean to you? Usually, being right-side-up is considered positive, while being upside-down is considered negative. So, for example, having the 'fool' appear right-side-up in someone's reading could mean that they (or someone close to them) are unaware or ignorant of the dangers to which they are presenting themselves, while the reverse could mean that while they have been a fool, they have 'reversed' themselves and their thinking in terms of the reading.
The more you understand the symbols/cards on a personal level, the more intimate you know their relationships, the better you will understand how they relate to each other in a reading. Thus, will your readings gain both you and the querant more insight than someone who simply parrots whatever interpretation they find elsewhere. The 'standard' meanings are meant simply to be a starting point for the reader, a place where they can begin to understand and absorb the potential of what is being presented.

Tarot (tarroka) are tools used by Witches and Pagans for divination. much likt the Oujia board they can be very powerful tools.
you are on the right track by making the deck yourself. learning to use it however is a long and tedious process. each card has meanings associated with it. and how it falls into the pattern will change that meaning.
furthermore a true tarot reader will actually begin to "hear" the cards. and again their meanings will change to what the card is trying to say in that specific situation.
I would not tell you to throw them away. but be ready for revelations that you never thought possible. and new possibilities that you never thought plausable.
they are a magical tool. and will be more powerful because of your crafting them yourself. you should read up on some magical religions (Celtic Paganism, Wicca, Gypsy Mysticisim) before you do anything more than meditate with the cards.
i cannot teach you how to use them online. i am sorry, but i would actually have to be in the room with you to gauge the energy flow and such. try finding a coven of Wiccans or a grove of Druids in your area, and see what they can teach you.
most of them will share knowlege without you having to join their group.

You can google 'How to Learn the Tarot' and find lots of info about Tarot use and history.
Tarot has been officially banned by the Roman Catholic Church for centuries.
The reason for this is that the church claimed that their priests were the only official 'oracles' to which folks could address prayers and concerns about the future.
Because Tarot readers competed with the church for donations, the church made up a big lie about Tarot being 'Satanic' or witchcraft.
Apparently, only 'official' witchcraft conducted by the local priest each Sunday at mass and confession was allowed, mostly because Tarot readers would cut into the church's cash flow.
Enjoy!

People fear what they don't understand, and most people do not understand the power that lies in each Tarot card. Do not throw your deck away, especially if you worked so hard designing your own artwork for the cards.
as for learning how to use the Tarot, there are many books that you can find at your local bookstore if no one is willing to help you.
Tarot is not witchcraft! yes, it is used by modern witches, but there is no dark purpose to it.

I use to read tarot and yes it does seem cool, most of the devil's tools do. Yes some including myself can use them for divination, but the cost is to high. What I did not see and what was not reveled to me via the cards is that it enveloped me and became a sort of religion for me that had a very strong hold that would not let go easily and threatened rational thinking.
Unlike God who gives us free will to love and obey Him or not. Satan does not care how he gets us.

Tarot is not bad, and if you created your own deck first WOW!
That is impressive, just study/read about Tarot. Keep that deck and someday you will know that the only reason people wanted you to think it was bad is because it WORKS.
