The Garden of Eden story, adapted from the Gilgamesh Epic and other earlier tales, is shared as a lesson*s" for those would learn and grow. You don't need an entire publishing house to run a grade school.
Why did he create earth? In the first half dozen verses of the Bible, you will see a very brief summary of a titanic battle in the G. Epic. There the Chaos Monster has to be defeated. The ancient Greeks have a similar version with the Titans etc. In the Bible, the Spirit hovers over the chaos ... and then God speaks.
And we learn from the story.

Just speculating, but the whole Earth could have been like the Garden of Eden at the time, but that was just the name of the home where Adam and Eve lived.

Gen.1:1,2 All exist and earth exist. Job 38:30-32;
Gen.1:3-25 Earth is in preparation and day age is no short period of time, all is good at end of each day age. Job 38:4-7; Col.1:15-17 Jesus created in image of God.
Gen.1:26
God said,"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Job 37:12 [ world ];

Now it is time to find out who was there with God, the US and the OUR. John 17: 3, 5,24;

Adam and Eve are in day age six in the garden of Eden, it ends all is good. God told them from Eden to expand to fill the earth.

Day age seven does not end all is good. Heb.4:1-12 says we are still in day age seven.
As for time, the genealogy of Jesus is all time given, there is no age of earth given.

tHE BIBLE SAYS GOD KNOWS EVERTHING. And god knew that adam and eve was going to disobey him. Tha'ts why he made a garden in part of the earth. He knows everything before he even created the earth.

Maybe because God , being God, knew what was going to happen and knew he was going to need the rest of the earth as a testing ground for mankind.

Because when God starts to act, he begins with a beachhead, and then works from there.

That is why in the old-Testament, He started with the Jews first.

Remember, the original revolt of Lucifer devastated the universe (it was him who created hell, not God).

So God has a job to do bringing order out of chaos.

He needed a place like Nod in order to cast out Adam and Eve. He knew they (she) would screw up, you see, because he's onmicient. So he needed a jail, a county lockup, so to speak. We've been paying for it ever since. But seriously... and this is a "prayer" for all people of faith. Keep attending your church on Sunday (or Saturday), but please... please please please, just go to the library every now and then. Let's talk again in a few years.
