I personally downloaded all the 1960 thru 1989 "No.1 Hits" albums ... great collection.
Goes via Rapid Share so it takes a while to get them all if you don't have an account ... still well worth it.

it is illegal to download mp3's. Now that I said that.
Use Bearshare. Download the older 5.2 version. the new 6.0 doesn't let you download most mp3's

The best place I know on the internet is a website called sideload.com, where you can create a free account and then also move thousands of songs over. There are other sites then that you can use the sideload technology to move songs into your account.
Check it out and its free with zero strings.

Why don't you use MP3 Rocket? That's what I use to download TV shows, music, and movies.
