madeover on tv shows on HGTV, like say a theater room or whatever...often these people live in huge homes in rich areas???
Why is that...it seems like they only go to well off neighborhoods and help them design their homes...not poorer areas, why is this???
Is this fair to you?
I really am not interested in seeing some rich princess mom get a room madeover when their room is like 4 of my rooms put together...you know what I mean?

Or when they makeover a kids room, the kids room is usually bigger than my master bedroom in my tiny house. The kids already have everything, including a huge home to live in...yeah, lets make over a rich kids room cause they arent spoiled already.

This is a touchy subject for me.....see I have some good friends that are in a small 4 bedroom house....i think....the father had a daughter die last year....his daughter had a total of 7 kids.....she died shortly after giving birth to her last two, which were twins, and he and his wife took in the children.... the family has now nine kids to support....they sent an audition to extreme home makeover and they were even interviewed....only to be told that they had picked someone in a nearby city....Lincoln Nebraska...this is in Omaha BTW....and they were told the reason was the show wanted a "dream" story not what they had to offer.......I'm infuriated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have a show in asutralia called auction squad, they pick homes that have been on the market a while and haven't sold and do them up and auction them to seeif they cn get it sold and at a better price.now half these homes are already on the market for over half a million doallars.you can only be on th dshow if you live in sydneyor melbourne where hoems are selling all the time the average low priced home being about $450,000.What a bout the country dwellers who have thier homes on the market sometimes for 2 years??? Or the people who live in the not so affluent areas of sydney that NEED a hand to pretty their property up because they just can't afford it, probably the reason they are on the marke t anyway!!!

Honestly many of the shows on HGTV are deign shows, where the client is payinf for the service, only design on a dime, and 2 others are free design makeovers. I like Extreme Home Makeover they have helped a few families in our area & truelly made a differance in their lives, I just always end up crying.

I agree totally! They need to makeover more average homes for sure! I told my husband I wanted to apply for a makeover to our rooms in our house and my husband said the same thing! He's like our house isn't as nice as the ones on those shows. Half the times the rooms don't even need to be made over. Sometimes on TLC they do average looking homes though. Like Clean sweep most of those houses seem pretty average...even a few of them weren't so nice....I think HGTV is a lot more extravagant than TLC by far. But I know exactly what you mean!

A big room does not mean "rich". Most of those homes are pretty much the average home size in America and I've even seem some that are much smaller. People work hard to get where they are to be able to afford a nice home...it just was not handed to them.

I've noticed that several times which does not make much sense to you and I. Even shows like "Overhaulin" they do a car for or for friends of people like Jay Leno and other rich people. Why not rebuild some poor persons car so he can be proud and get to work. I have a feeling hgtv is too afraid to get dirty. I don't watch those shows anymore because they are getting too pathetic.

First because you have to own your home, not rent, to be on the show, which rules out a huge chunk of poorer people.
You also have enough free time on your hands to be on a TV show instead of going to work.
You don't mention a particular show, but a lot of those shows they don't do the work for free--the homeowners are putting up cash.

G#D!
does that ANNOY ME!!
and it's not just that they're rich and live in flash houses, it's that if you live in certain areas or cities, they don't come to those areas at all!!
I have tried to get my mother on every show that is around, her house would be a good challenge for them BUT they don't even go anywhere near the country, G#d forbid that they help someone who actually need the help!

absolutely, it's ridiculous. Let's see what they can do with a kids' room that's only 10' by 12'!

YES! I get soooo mad! These people they "choose" could afford to pay someone to come in and do it anyway.
The shows need to pick a challenging house---like say mine!
