madeover on tv shows on HGTV, like say a theater room or whatever...often these people live in huge homes in rich areas???
Why is that...it seems like they only go to well off neighborhoods and help them design their homes...not poorer areas, why is this???
Is this fair to you?
I really am not interested in seeing some rich princess mom get a room madeover when their room is like 4 of my rooms put together...you know what I mean?

A few years ago there was a makeover for a newly disabled person. Everything in the house was made to conform to ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) Specifications. It made a good program.

Later on that home was reassessed for tax purposes. Although the upgrade was a gift, that family could not afford to pay the taxes on the increase in property value and eventually lost their home.

Keep watching HGTV they have one called small spaces on Sat.
love that show !There homes on the show are usally smaller than mine and I live in a MFH 3 bed two bath home. Can't belive the room make overs they do. You can't belive all the storage stuff they can cram in a small space too.
Also Christopher Lowell does a lot of small home ideas.

I think they are targeting the richer areas because their sponsors are trying to target upscale rich home owners. Ironically there are alot fewer rich people and they tend to be alot cheaper and very fussy. I particularly dislike the shows that smash and trash the house on camera first. Alot of these houses are better than most people have. Not everybody can spend 25 grand on a bedroom and not many people have a bedroom that is 400 sq ft.

I swear you look just like I do, but with blue eyes!
I have seen the storage shows on HGTV that seem to help lower income famillies. Write them on their website & tell them what you want to see.
Jim, that part about the home for the disabled person is not fair!!

Oh that's not true. I see all kinds of episodes with average, middle class homes. In fact, my biggest complaint is that they make one room look fabulous while the rest of the house is still a dump.

I agree with you.....they should do a reconstruction project in the less off neighborhoods where people actually 'need' a nice room.
