I see a lot of people who could use the book, "How to win friends and Influence People." Of course, if their sole intention is to insult, belittle, degrade, slander, abuse and attack then they should by all means carry on as usual.

Hmm... tricky question. Very tricky. I vote... ignore them?

BTW, I second your recommendation of "How to Win Friends and Influence People." I sometimes teach argumentative writing, and it's amazing how many people think they can convince people to change their mind through insulting them! Doesn't work, folks. You need to approach them as sane individuals who have a reason for believing what they do, and start there :-)

And yes--if one's sole intention is to keep Y!A on the level of a shock jock's talk show, then... well done, folks.

Neither choice is best. It's better to present the non-believer with the truth then walk away and let God do the rest. The seed has been planted. The most we can do at that point is pray for the other person to be open to receive the truth.

It is better to remain calm in that way they'll never get a rise out of you. The way I look at it; it takes a stronger person to do that than one who immediately rises to the occasion. People who remain calm are much stronger than those who anger quickly. It takes more energy and strength to spread hatred than what it does love, tolerance, understanding, and kindness all rolled into one.

You do not need to attack them and you do not necessarily ignore them either if they do not believe as you do.
First, why you should not attack them because it give them opportunity to further abuse your faith.
For Muslims there are clear directions in the Quran in this regards such as
" And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking", or another verse
"Revile not those whom they pray besides Allah lest they wrongfully revile Allah through their ignorance...."

People that attack in the manner you speak of are either not educated enough or intelligent enough ( one does not beget the other) to engage in a dialog about their beliefs. Attacking people that have different beliefs than yours only leads them to take the defensive and you will never be able to reach them, or even get them to listen to what you believe and why

I'll save you the money on the book. It is an easy thing to win friends and influence people...do, say, and think what that person wants you to do, say, and think.
It is easy to lie, really, it is. Making fake friends is terribly easy, telling them the truth is what gets you hated.

I never ignore people who don't agree with me. I say bring it on. bring it all on. in fact i tend to seek out those that I know don't agree with me and say something deliberate just to get the engines going. Never idlely stand by while a fire is going out when you can throw another log onto it and keep it going.

(New International Version)
Romans 12:19-21
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
