Well, banning alcohol actually has nothing directly to do with Christianity. Alcoholic beverages were necessary back in the day to kill bacteria and other organisms from their drink. Today, it's used for relaxation and getting d-runk.
But honestly, people get defensive about the water into wine thing? What?

You mean if Jesus made wine then why is it a sin to drink? In my opinion the wine that he made was grape juice that was fresh tasting and of high quality. When the wine had all been drunk people would be expecting lesser quality wine, not at all irrefutably fermented. People say that if you go to the greek and all that that it had to be fermented, that the men were well drunk, but I don't think that if those men at the wedding were drunk that Jesus would have made them fermented wine that would have increased their drunkeness. It wasn't in his sinless nature to cause others to sin. Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. This is fermented wine. Jesus would not have made it.

defensive?
jesus said its not yet my time
in other words go away
so servants dug into the hosts private stash
its basic human nature one o one
people need miricles despite christ saying hes not working miricles
if i told you to drink my bath water would that say some thing or would that be seen as a proof?
hand washing jars is the same thing
everyone washed thier hands in it ,its like saying go jump
also the loaves and fishes thing
sans hand washing a jew cant eat
many bought along food in case they had chance to eat ,like in the parable of having enough oil/read food
thus any jew can explain feeding 12 diciples with 3 loaves of bread ,the jews shared the food they brought
but disbelievers need a sign
here it is how did they wash thier hands
surly here is a sign for a thinking man.

I don't really know what you are referring to but I'm a Christian and I'll be the first to say that if Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, turned water into wine then it's perfectly OK to drink it. The Bible instructs us not to get drunk but it doesn't tell us not to drink.

Dude they were at a wedding party... they had already drank all the wine that was there....(they are pretty wasted now) and Jesus makes them more wine ( now they are going to get totally blitz) and you could have served them vinegar and they would have thought it pretty tasty.

Um... I don't know of anyone who is...
Maybe people think that if Jesus turned water into wine and drank wine he was evil.
Other that, I cannot think of any reason.
