Having a family that loves them and that gives lots of hugs and affection. If you give them the essentials in life, they will grow up to be good, caring people. Providing for them is essential, but being rich with no love does not make anyone happy. Children are very smart, they know when they are not loved.

What makes them secure is a loving environment, consistency and predictability in parents, and parents who are there to really love them.
Happiness is a short lived phenomenon which is usually marked by "Did I get what I wanted right now?" A secure child is happy in the long run regardless of things. It's the relationships that really count. A child who is told "No" when it is needed is not happy at the time, but likely will be very satisfied in life if they can feel the loving and caring of parents who will say "no" as it is needed.

firm consistent directions. Approval. toys to enhance the child's natural curiosity, Build on their interests. My grandma raised 12 children. She said to make a few set in iron rules. One of which was do not lie. And always follow through if those were broken. But a lot of little stuff just overlook it. Might not work in this age. But you would have to think it through. And laughingly she said, remember their names.

We all know it's US that makes them happy... our attention, our love... they can have all the STUFF in the world, they can have the BIG HOUSE but if they don't have parents who love them, none of that matters... you just send your kid into a lonely world where they have to find ways to keep themselves entertained... many a time it ends up on a sour note...
don't get me wrong, it's great to buy your kids many things, sure get 'em that big house, and YES a great school is worth it... but, again, spending time w/ our kids is what's best for them...
My son has everything he needs but that big house... hopefully, someday I can provide that for him but he has one thing that truly makes him happy: ME & family!
Best wishes

attention from their parents.. my children are most happy when I'm able to stop the housework, stop the errand running and sit and play with them.. These are the most valuable memories your child will ever make... A dad playing ball with his children, a mother playing play doh.. It doesn't have to be long.. I know life's schedule is busy... Just play with them, this will make their day!

good lovin, not in a pedophilic way.
bonding time, go and play with them!! run around outside! jump on a trampoline, play in the mud with them!!
treat them with surprise every now and then, make surprise trips after school to the zoo or toysRus!
dont spoil them!
discipline is a must!
if you're in a disciplinary situation, get down to eye level with them and be FIRM and STERN!
coloring books and paints are a blast!!
go to Chuckie Cheeses!!
have him/her take pictures of you!!
and vice versa.
or play dress up and model.
go to walmart and grab a "mom" magazine, like family circle.
loads of stuff is in there!
or just watch Super Nanny and Nanny911.
have fun
