On my treadmill, the lowest incline setting is 1.5, and this appears reasonably inclined. I've heard that running on a treadmill is easier than running outside because of the elasticity or something, but with an incline, it is almost the same. Is that true? What is the lowest setting on your treamill/a treamill that you have used?

and how long should it take to train to run 3 miles on the treadmill without stopping If I run about a mile right now, with a small walking break in the middle on the treadmill.
Thanks!

Many treadmills can be set to .5.

Try interval training, where you vary your speed, and that will help you increase the distance you can travel. Go up about 10% each week you run, either in speed or in time. Log everything you do so you can see your progress. Get Running Magazine -- they give good advice.

The differences between the 2 is: senery and impact you don't get either with a treadmill. The part about the incline well of course you want a work out, and time frame what ever you are comfortable with.
