Wow...

12 years. It would be a shame to waste that time. Is there absolutely no way to hang out 8 more years and get retirement? Then, you can do just about anything you want and not worry too much about money.

Obviously law enforcement. After that, it depends on what specifically you did in the infantry. There are plenty of DOD contractors that look for people coming out of the military. You have first hand knowledge of how equipment is actually used as apposed to what it is designed for. You understand what people in your MOS really need, and what improvements could be made to existing equipment.

But, I agree with the earlier answer, once you hit about 12 years, most hang out for the other 8 to get the retirement benefits. But, given the current times, I could see why people may not want to .

Unless you plan to go into law enforcement, there is no civilian equivalent to Infantry MOS. Take your GI Bill funding and TA program courses and get enrolled in college on base. You can do distance learning and everything. Just contact your Education Assistance Officer on post and go from there. It will prepare you for departure into the civilian world. Also, the military branches sponsor transitional programs from military to civilian so you have a better chance of succeeding when you do get out.

My suggestion would be to take advantage of the GI bill and tuition assistance. Find something you would like to do after you get out and work on getting a degree or a certificate, depending on what you want to do. You can use the GI bill for certifications also, if you want to get into a trade skill.

didn't you have a mos? what about advanced training or college...also the army (like all branches) has a program that tells you which companies support veterans and military personnel...ask your co or use your ako account and find out there.

8 more years would mean you get retirement pay. You'll be too close to 20 to quit then!
