lawdy I hope not, I was a chef for about 15 years, used nothing but Cast Iron, Stainless Steel and metal utensils. Still use them.
If its that Teflon or some other fancy no stick stuff, yes, it can scratch the coating and mess up something, but I would noyt let it stop me from cooking a meal.

If the pans are coated with a non-stick surface, then the answer is "Yes". If the pots and pans are metal only "stainless or cast iron" then you can use metal or whatever you wish. Metal untensils on a non-stick coating can scratch or mar the coating. Not a good thing :-)

There are pans and pots that can withstand metal. Got to read instructions. Most pots and pans do get ruined with time. And then again you need to replace them from time to time.

Yes if they are coated pots and pans. You need to buy rubber utensils and some plastics are okay too.

If they are cheap pots and pans with a cheap non stick coating it will hurt them! If the pots and pans are quality it wont!
