Antidpressants are a cash cow for the pharmaceutical industry and a source of free vacations for the doctors who prescribe them. Depression is a misnomer. It should be called self obsession. The cure for this is to help others. You will be amazed at how effective it will be.

I wish you could describe your neurosis a bit better, but I suspect you're really describing anxiety.
Sometimes depression is borne out of anxiety. For instance, one might be anxious to talk to people, then consequently be depressed because they have few friends.
Anyway, anti-depressants *do* help. Some anti-depressants also have an anti-anxiety function as well. Good luck and remember it's not all about the medicine - you have to put in some effort on your own as well.

I'm an advocate for using non-pharmaceutical methods of managing psychic distress whenever possible. Why? Read some on this site by Dr. Ann Blake Tracey who has been an expert witness in several trials involving violent death & SSRI use: http://www.drugawareness.org/Ribbon/SSRIMeds.html
If you want to overcome your "neuroses" (wow, the labels...) and get on with your life, the best method I know of is the energy protocol known as Emotional Freedom Technique. You can learn it quickly and apply it easily.... download the free Get Started Package at http://tinyurl.com/yh5zhu, or if you want to dive in right away by purchasing the inexpensive instructional DVDs click here>>http://tinyurl.com/ycwle8
Will anti-depressants help? Read what Dr. Blake Tracey has to say.
God bless!

Antidepresents effect different people different way. For a solid answer you should talk to your doctor. Some Antidepressants cant have an opposite effect on some people, making them more depressed. Many antidepressants do have a high success rate. The best thing you can do is see your doctor.

Yes, somewhat. They take the edge off anxiety. I have been on Zoloft for 10 years now and there is a difference when I am and am not on my medication. Usually you have to incorporate therapy also, because medication doesn't fix the problem, it just eases it a bit so you have the ability to function. To eliminate the problem takes a more substantial course of action.

anti-depressants, just make you more aware and logical about the situation you are in. Like if you were in a fight and your partner called you a ***** and usually you would fight back, but on anti depressants it would make you more logical and you would just say ok and a *****, but im going to be smarter and not call you one back, but becareful they kill sex drives and make you different in my eyes. Alot of the time the reason youre depressed is because of the situation youre in. So get out of it and your problem may be fixed.!

, anti-depressants are absolutely the last thing to do. There are DVD,s at your book store that can help, believe me.My doctor suggested clinically proven audio technology. The DVD I got was one Called Alpha Relaxation System.I was so afraid my hyper standard poodle puppy would keep me from hearing it.Guess what/looked over at her and she had gone to sleep.she never would sleep or sit still before. We both relax with this DVD every evening.Dr Jeffery Thompson has done this system many years.

Antidepressants can literally save a life, and make you feel like a new, more in control person. Talk therapy in conjunction with them is helpful because you can unload your burdens and find the root cause of what is bothering you

People who take these dangerous drugs really need to re-consider why, and need too look seriously at the side effects - be afraid, be very afraid.
