I am doing a hike to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Besides asking friends and family members for money they suggest we also do fundraising events. I am in college and thought I could set up a table to sell something and have the $ go towards that. Since Valentines Day and St. Patrick's Day are coming up I thought it would be a good idea to tie that in some how. Would doing a bake sale actually get money, any ideas?!
You can also go to my website set up to accept donations if you would like to donate:

Thanks!

That sounds like a great philanthropy to donate too. You should try setting up a fundraising committee within your friends.

My organization fudraises a lot and we like to do change jars (gets some glass jars and decorate the outside with what you're trying to raise money for) I gained over $50 alone on that.

Try a candy sale also. Go get some candy bars at costco for about $12 a box and sell each bar for $1.00. You may think it's too much but believe me, people will always support for a good cause.

For V-day, try doing candy grams or flower grams. Ask people to donate material for this and just write up a little paragraph for companies to donate things to you for your cause.

Maybe host a casino night and each person plays poker or whatever game for $5 entrance fee. The proceeds will go towards your cause also.

There is always a way to get your community involved also. Try asking the society if they have any suggestions themselves. They may also give you a banner to help with tabling around campus. You may need to check with your campus also, if you are going to ask for money on campus. It's not a big deal, just sign a paper and they should give you a table and stuff to table with.

Maybe even try a raffle! Get some tickets to a game and then do a raffle amongst everyone and then whoever gets the winning ticket, gets the tickets.

I hope you do well in this. You seem to be contributing very well. Good luck.

I've done some fundraisers in my line of work. I'm no expert, but I can offer some advice. It's usually best to think of a catchy way to tie your fundraiser in with your cause. For example, if you were planning to set up the table during the hike and sell something, you might consider putting trail mix in Valentine's treat bags, tied with a pretty ribbon instead of baked goods. Tee shirts with a clever slogan or design on them relating to the event are usually good (unless they're already receiving one). You could set up a raffle, try to get local business to donate prizes and sell tickets to participants. Many times businesses will donate items or gift cards towards charity type events, esp. if you make sure to mention them as a sponsor or contributor (it's good advertising for them and community involvement).

Best of luck....kudos to you for your efforts.

A good fundraiser that I di in high school was go to business's to sell ads on the back of t-shirts. Sell bigger ads for more money and just keep going less money for littler text. Then you can sell the shirts the day of the event.
Hope this helps.

Where I live we always did "Eat what you want, pay what you want" dinners. Everyone from the organization got together and made several dishes, and the local meat processing plant donated meat, and everyone would come, typically on a Sunday afternoon, and they could get some food and we usually made alot (over $1200) in donations for very little work.

Bake sale can be a hit, if the presentation is awesome, make over the top quality product with catchy names, package nicely small foam disposeable cups fill with mini cookies wrap in heart cello wrap sell em for two buck a cup. heart shape chocolate chip cookies sitting on pink paper dollies. and wrapped up for buck....make nice big cookies. though so ppl feel like they are getting quality. avoid hand written posters make print em on computer dress clean cut for bake event you will probably do good.
for the hike do water bottles and fresh fruits and granola bars. buy them at bulk from sams club see if could get some official stickers or something to add to water bottles or granola bar from the charity to make it more official and business like. good luck.

not sure where you're at but I do know that Krispy Kreme has a program that helps people looking to do fund raisers.
You could also put together an aution/raffle and approach local businesses for in-kind donations (products vs. money).
good luck
