Is Cerebral Palsy similar to that of epilepsy?

I know that they are both brain/neurological disorders, but here is the thing: I have epilepsy and I've been told by my girlfriend that she has cerebral palsy. Are they the same disorders to the brain? Which of the two are considered more "deadly?"

Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that occurs during birth. Most often it is caused by a disruption in the oxygen flow to the baby's brain during the process of childbirth.
Epilepsy is a neurological malfuncion caused by "nerves" in the brain "misfiring" causing seizures. People with CP may also have epilepsy... but the two disorders are not connected as one is caused by structural changes or damage.. (CP), while the other is caused by neurological abnormalities (Epilepsy).
CP is not "deadly" although some of its attributes (such as Epilepsy or other seizure disorders) can be if not dealt with or treated.

epilepsy has to do with excessive neuronal activity in the brain. CP or cerebral palsy affects the body. Cerebral meaning brain and palsy meaning a weakness in the way someone moves or positions their body.

You can pretty much lead a near to normal life with epilepsy and with medication it can be controled but not cured.

Depending upon the severity of the CP ranging from mild to severe you could be anywhere from walking to a wheelchair.
Depending upon the part of brain that is affected depends on which part of the body is affected.

I have twins. One is a normal healthy little one and her sister has Cerebral Palsy and Apraxia. She was tested for epilepsy because of certain episodes but the EEG came back normal. She has a mild case of CP and you would never know she has it unless I told you. She is not as flexible as other kids her age. She can not run as fast, hold her balance as good but she has her own way of doing it.

Granted both of these conditions affect the brain. They are not related. They may come hand in hand with each other in some people but that can happen with any problem. Both are just neurological problems.

Neither one of the illnesses are deadly! And no, CP isn't any thing like Epilepsy. The CP affects the motor skills part of the brain, and epilepsy affects how the neurons fire in the brain, causing the seizures.
But neither one is deadly! The only way CP is if there are other factors besides the CP and Epilepsy only if you don't keep your seizures under controll.

CP is a disorder that progresses with age. It causes one to lose control of their muscles. Similar to Parkinson's disease or MS. CP can be mild or profound, with the worst cases resulting in total paralysis (including vocal cords, ability to swallow). How "deadly" each one is depends on the individual. I worked in group homes and worked with people with both severe epilepsy and CP. Both disorders vary greatly from person to person. I've seen people who have lived into their 60s with more severe cases of both disorders. It all depends on how well that person takes care of themselves.

Screaming sounds like he is in pain. There could be something going on with him. Stomach pain, headaches, physical pain or soreness your not aware of. Is he getting enough food through his feeding tube. As you know children grow, and may need more nutrition. Please get check up with his primary care doctor, and get a referral for a specialists. (neurologists to gastronologists)

I believe that they are two completely different disorders so you can't say which is "worse." Look up the definition of both and you'll have your answer.
